Upcoming Road Disruptions/Events in West Marin.
From Supervisor Rodoni's Office: Commuters traveling between the Mount Tamalpais region and Stinson Beach should brace for potential disruptions due to a road construction initiative commencing in late November and extending through the spring of 2024. This project on Panoramic Highway aims to rectify damage caused by a severe storm in October 2021 that unleashed 12 inches of rainfall on the mountain in just 24 hours. The Marin County Department of Public Works (DPW) is overseeing the repair work, which involves the installation of new retaining walls, guardrails, and pavement along a 700-foot segment of Panoramic Highway adjacent to Marin View Avenue, located south of the Mountain Home Inn. The designated work area sits approximately 1.3 miles northwest of Four Corners, the intersection of Panoramic Highway, Sequoia Valley Road, and Muir Woods Road. This particular stretch of Panoramic Highway is frequently used by tourists visiting Mount Tamalpais State Park, Muir Wood National Monument, the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Point Reyes National Seashore, and Marin’s Pacific beaches. Starting late November, Panoramic Highway will temporarily operate as a single lane to facilitate the construction of the retaining wall, regulated by a temporary traffic signal controlling alternating directions of travel. Anticipate delays of 5 to 10 minutes for both drivers and cyclists once construction commences. During construction hours, the Panoramic Trail, a hiking trail within Mount Tamalpais State Park downhill from the work zone, will be closed. Park authorities plan to install signage notifying visitors of the trail closure and suggesting alternative routes. The Panoramic Highway location is one of 13 projects in the County slated for guardrail enhancements in the upcoming months, aiming to replace approximately 4,500 feet of aging guardrails in West Marin. The project is funded through grants from the Highway Safety Improvement Program and the Federal Highway Administration Emergency Relief program. For further details on ongoing projects, visit the DPW website or email Christopher Blunk, DPW Assistant Director. You can also call DPW at 415 473-6530 (415 473-3232 TYY).

History of the Bolinas Post Office - February 3 through June 2
"For 160 years, Bolinas had a busy downtown post office. Then, in early 2023, an unfortunate and perhaps avoidable set of circumstances left the Bolinas postal service without a home. The situation became a dire hardship for the town and an urgent issue. This exhibit, featuring Bolinas’s original 1863 post office facade, shares fascinating stories from the days of mail delivered by horse and boat to the present. It highlights some of the communications, dynamic postmasters, and community spirit of residents who joined throughout the decades to maintain the presence and integrity of the USPS as an essential service in Bolinas."
